Over the years I have used a lot of plugins, some have become my favourites while others last as little as a few minutes before I ditch them and go looking for better options.
Of course, with the introduction of the new Block Editor a number of new plugins have appeared that contain various types of blocks that we can use and it will be interesting to see which ones of those become my favourites
You might also wonder why, when there are quite a few directory themes and plugins out there, none of them are showing up in the list below and the answer is simple.
Over the years I’ve built more than my fair share of directories and I never found a theme or a plugin that gave me everything I wanted … and basically I don’t want much.
My most successful directories have been simple affairs that deliver the information site visitors want with the minimum of fuss. Sadly the developers of the themes and plugins that have been aimed at directory builders have all had too many bells and whistles for my liking so, once again, I’m building a simple directory using basic WordPress tools.
And now to my list of what I am using on this site.
I’m using the latest version of WordPress along with the GeneratePress theme (it loads fast) combined with the premium plugin for GeneratePress (because it adds a little extra functionality to the theme).
The plugins I’m using are:
Atomic Blocks
Black Studio TinyMCE Widget
GP Premium
HTTP Headers
Lazy Load by WP Rocket
Nested Pages
Rel Nofollow Checkbox
Simple Automatic Updates
Spam Destroyer
Stackable Gutenberg Blocks
Sucuri Security
TinyMCE Advanced
Updraft – Backup/Restore
Wordfence
WP Fastest Cache
WP Rollback
Yoast SEO
Relevanssi – search
